New DSD+ "Fast Lane" Released

DSD+ "Fast Lane" 2.71 was released on Christmas, the first Fast Lane release since February. (Fast Lane releases are like betas; the current "public release" of DSD+ is 1.101 and was released two years ago.)

This release adds numerous features and fixes, but support for Project 25 Phase II decoding is still missing. The "Notes" text file that accompanies the software explains all the enhancements and changes.

UPS (Laurel) License Modification

UPS in Laurel has modified its license to add DMR emissions designators to its frequencies.

Skyline Plaza Condo FCC App

Skyline Plaza Condo, located at 3703 S. George Mason Dr. in Falls Church, has an application pending before the FCC for a DMR repeater on 451.7000.

A new frequency that was recently licensed is being used for at least part of the Skyline development in Fairfax County:

The Alexandrian Hotel, located in Old Town, is now using UHF DMR simplex. The hotel had previously been using VHF analog simplex.

Golden Triangle BID Switches Frequencies

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District recently switched frequencies. They are now using DMR on 463.4750 (with a different group), and also using RAS:

Although two hours away from DC, it should be noted that there have been several updates to the Richmond page. Several businesses and the convention center have switched to DMR.

University of Maryland Trunked System Update

The University of Maryland, College Park continues to use an 800 MHz analog trunked system. The groups that were previously noted as used for Byrd Stadium are actually used by the Athletics department for events at multiple venues around campus, including Xfinity Center.

MGM National Harbor Eliminates Some Groups

MGM National Harbor has apparently eliminated some groups from its MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus system. The three groups used by slot attendants have not been active for at least several weeks. The casino is licensed for several DMR simplex frequencies, but it seems unlikely the slot attendants would use simplex. They may use a special internal communications system.

The Hyatt Regency Washington on Capitol Hill and the Hyatt Regency Fairfax were using analog the last time I monitored. The hotels in Reston and Bethesda have not been checked in some time. The hotel in Baltimore is using DMR, but it doesn't follow the above plan.

It will be interesting to see if these other DC area hotels switch to DMR in the future. The Bethesda hotel license has the emissions designators for DMR, but the Reston license, the DC license, and the Fairfax license do not. Not having the DMR designators doesn't necessarily mean anything, however; the Crystal City hotel has not updated its license for DMR.

463.4875 (Color Code 14, Slot 2, Group 106) is a DMR frequency being used with Enhanced Privacy. The frequency was monitored at Gravelly Point, and may be used by Children's National Medical Center, or by the Museum of the Bible.

Two Unknown Frequencies Near Nationals Park

On Saturday, two unknown frequencies were monitored in the Nationals Park area:

• 464.5000 was monitored as part of a MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus system with Color Code 14. The frequency was in LCN 1. No voice traffic was heard during several hours of listening.
• 466.1375 was a NXDN 4800 frequency using RAN 2. Group 3320 was active with radio testing and "no delays or will get cancelled."

Yesterday, 150.7125 and 150.7375 were monitored along the Route 3 corridor in Fredericksburg/Spotsylvania. The frequencies were using Project 25 encrypted voice. No NAC was obtained, because the BCD436HP does not display the NAC for P25 encrypted frequencies.

150.7375 was previously monitored in Fredericksburg, with some clear voice.

Update on Stafford Emergency Management Talkgroups

Stafford Sheriff continues to use the Emergency Management talkgroups for routine communications. Emergency Management 5 (talkgroup 4711) is being used as the "Traffic" channel (escorts, etc.). Emergency Management 2 (4708) is an alternate to the dispatch channel (4707).

Stafford Sheriff Using OEM Talkgroups

Yesterday, Stafford County was using several of the Emergency Management channels on the county's trunked system for unencrypted Sheriff's Office communications. Emergency Management 1 (talkgroup 4707) was used for dispatch. Emergency Management 3 (4709) was used as an "Info" channel for license/registration lookups, etc. Emergency Management 4 (4710) was used for courts. Emergency Management 2 (4708) was also in use, but the user could not be determined.

It's unknown why these talkgroups were being used for the Sheriff's Office, and for how long this will last, but it was a chance to hear unencrypted Sheriff's Office communications for the first time in several years.

Possible Stafford Schools Frequencies

In recent days, several Stafford conventional frequencies have had problems with open microphones. The problem affected the Dispatch 1 and Dispatch 2 frequencies for Stafford Schools, but it was also seen on three other UHF-T frequencies that were previously used by the county. This may mean that these frequencies are now assigned to the schools, even if not used often.

DSD+ "Fast Lane" 2.39 was released today. (Fast Lane releases are like betas; the current "public release" of DSD+ is 1.101 and was released on Christmas Day 2015.) According to the release notes, these are the new features:
