National Law Enforcement Museum License

The National Law Enforcement Museum, which opens October 13, was recently licensed for a trunked system on 856.3375, 857.3375, 858.3375, and 859.3375. The system type is unknown; the license is coded for DMR and P25.

Mount Vernon Using IDAS System

Mount Vernon recently switched to an IDAS system. The system is using several of the estate's licensed repeaters. The licenses have not been updated to indicate NXDN. Only two talkgroups have been identified, but the estate probably uses several more.

New Stafford County Talkgroup - 4763

Today, personnel doing some kind of utility work have been conversing on Stafford County talkgroup 4763. They've mentioned the Rowser Building and the CCC (probably the Courthouse Community Center).

Yesterday, a new talkgroup (2113) was monitored on the DC trunked system. An "annex" was mentioned, but there was nothing else said to identify the talkgroup.

Talkgroup 166 on the DC trunked system appeared to be used by people in the medical tents on the Mall. These were staffed by outside agencies, such as Montgomery County and George Washington University Hospital.

451.8000 carried the audio of the rally, as well as directions from audio-visual personnel. The NBC Sports Network televised the rally, so they may have used this frequency.

Recent DC Finds: L'Enfant Plaza and The Wharf

L'Enfant Plaza is confirmed using a third DMR repeater, probably in IP Site Connect mode or similar:

The property also uses 463.9000 and 464.5250. 463.9000 and 464.1875 are licensed, but 464.5250 is on an expired license. The three frequencies provide coverage for several buildings and underground areas at L'Enfant Plaza. 464.5250 can be monitored in a much wider area than 463.9000 and 464.1875.

The Anthem music venue at The Wharf is using their two recently-licensed repeaters in analog mode. Here's the latest line-up:

On Tuesday, when monitoring of The Anthem frequencies was done, there was a constant open carrier on 461.4375, which interfered with The Anthem and other users on the frequency.

The Anthem, a music venue in Southwest DC, recently modified its license to add DMR emissions designators to its five existing UHF simplex frequencies. It also added analog/DMR repeaters on 461.4375 and 464.4375.

I was surprised to not find more activity. The Capital One Arena system was extremely busy, but it uses Enhanced Privacy. Even the usual CSC Event Staff simplex frequencies were not active; they may have moved to the arena's system.

Capital One Arena Expands Cap+ System

Capital One Arena is now using a Capacity Plus system with at least six frequencies, up from the previous three. This allows for twelve talk-paths. Unfortunately, all traffic continues to use Enhanced Privacy.

The NHL was recently licensed for twenty UHF simplex frequencies to be used at Capital One Arena for the Stanley Cup Finals.

Capital One Arena License Mod

Capital One Arena has an application pending to modify its license ahead of the Stanley Cup Finals, which move to Washington Saturday evening. The modification increases the number of mobile units from 300 to 500, and adds five repeaters to the existing three-repeater Capacity Plus system. (These five repeaters were already used as conventional DMR repeaters.)

Northern Virginia Community College was recently licensed for P25 conventional repeaters on 773.40625 at the NVCC campuses. This is a Special Temporary license that expires August 23; it's unknown what the purpose of these frequencies is.

AirCare 2 Radio ID

AirCare 2 was monitored this morning with a radio ID of 3187306 on the Stafford/Fredericksburg trunked system. The 318xxxx radio IDs are used by Fairfax County units (AirCare 1 is based at Fairfax Hospital, and uses radio ID 3187305.) The helicopter was landing somewhere in Stafford, possibly for a demonstration at Colonial Forge High School.

Whistler Announces New Scanners

Last week, Whistler announced new scanner models that will handle simulcast systems properly. They will also include Bluetooth transceivers. The units, which will ship in the fourth quarter, will compete with Uniden's SDS100 scanner (which will ship in June).

The organization had switched to DMR on 451.8625 some time ago, but it was never confirmed that they were using DMR on 452.9750 until recently. The unknown user on 464.7500 referenced in a previous post is the Presidential Building at 1111 Pennsylvania Ave. There was a call on the frequency for a stalled elevator, and security said they were calling DC Fire. Madison County, Virginia Schools have switched from an LTR system to conventional DMR. Only one frequency has been monitored from Fredericksburg, but the school system is licensed for two more. They may be using the frequencies in a MOTOTRBO IP Site Connect configuration, and the other frequencies may not be receivable from Fredericksburg.

Uniden Releases Additional Firmware Updates for BCD436HP/BCD536HP

About a month after releasing firmware for the BCD436HP/BCD536HP scanners to allow for NXDN decoding, Uniden has released a couple of other firmware updates to refine NXDN performance and improve several other issues. The scanner's firmware is updated in Uniden's programming software application, Sentinel.

Georgetown University recently switched from conventional DMR repeaters to a multi-site Capacity Plus system. Only one site has been identified, but that site indicates the presence of three other sites. In brief monitoring, numerous talkgroups appeared, but only a couple have been identified so far.

Waterview FCC License

The Waterview building in Rosslyn was recently licensed for a DMR repeater on 461.8375. The building was previously licensed for the same frequency, but nothing has ever been monitored on it.

Bloomberg Adds Repeater

Bloomberg recently licensed an analog/DMR repeater on 451.2625 at its Washington location. The company was licensed in February for an analog/DMR repeater on 451.5500.

464.7500 - Unknown User

An unknown user was using a DMR repeater on 464.7500 this weekend in the DC area. At first, it was suspected that the user had something to do with Saturday's White House Correspondents' Dinner, but this may not be correct. Here are the color codes, slots, and talkgroups:

(The licensee name is actually Electronic Metrology Laboratory, but this appears to be for general museum operations.) The museum was previously noted using DTR radios.

Arlington Schools Modifies License

Arlington Schools recently modified its license to add an analog/DMR repeater on 152.4050 at 3035 S. Abingdon St. (Abingdon Elementary), an analog/DMR repeater on 153.0650 at 5554 Beverleys Mill Rd. in Fauquier County (Arlington Outdoor Lab), and an analog/DMR repeater on 153.3050 at 1030 N. McKinley Rd. (McKinley Elementary).

NHL Stadium Series FCC License

Go Wireless was recently licensed for several UHF simplex frequencies for the NHL Stadium Series event on March 3 at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.

408.5500 - PassPort and Capacity Plus

408.5500 has both PassPort and MOTOTRBO Capacity Plus data bursts on it in DC. A Close Call hit was obtained for the frequency near the Capital Hilton. The Capacity Plus info is as follows: Color Code 1, slots 3 and 4. Interestingly, the Capacity Plus bursts only appear to be using half of the usual 7.6 kHz DMR bandwidth.

464.0125 Color Code 5 in DC

On New Year's Day, 464.0125 (Color Code 5, Slot 1, Group 3) was monitored near 10th St. and Pennsylvania Ave. NW in DC. A specific user could not be determined, but the traffic sounded like setup for an event. Also monitored: "switching to channel 1 to listen to security." This frequency is licensed to The Wharf.
